Course Description:
- Runners get ready to Scramble! You will hope to have the luck of the Irish on your side as you navigate the varied terrain surrounding Blue Marsh Lake. Starting just across the street from the toasty confines of Ganly's Pub, the race begins with a short downhill warm up before you take a sharp right to join the Blue Marsh Multi-use trail. A wide trail of hard-packed stone and dirt, leads eventually to Tulpehocken Creek. From here, you will scamper through twisting single track along the hillside overlooking the creek. As you emerge from the woods near Blue Marsh Dam, 6k and 15k runners will part ways. 6K skip to below. 15K only continued: After crossing the creek just below the dam, you are greeted by a short section of road before making a left to rejoin the multi-use trail. You're in for mile long steady climb, which takes you past the Park Office before reaching the crest of the hill near the Dry Brooks Day Use Entrance. Your quads will be thankful, as the next 2.5 miles are mostly flat and downhill starting with more hard-pack trail passing along open fields and cutting through the woods. The trail then drops you along the shore of the lake at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area. You will follow the water's edge for .75 mile before merging with the trail to head back past the Park Office and return to the Dam. You may struggle to stay focused on the trail with the distraction of picture perfect views which include lake vistas, Blue Marsh Dam, Tulpehocken Creek, Berks County Prison, and even the Pagoda. Just past the Dam, you rejoin the 6k course. 6k and 15k course continued: A short climb takes you past the Dam and across a service road. 1.5 miles of wide, rolling dirt trail leads to a hard left, where you will face your final .25 mile climb to the Finish. You will have no problem pushing yourself to the Finish Line as the smells and sounds of the post-race party at Ganly's Pub grow closer and closer. Wear your most spirited green running gear to be eligible for a Wicking Hat!
